In the crafting of a new template for an elevated workplace focused on wellness, Mineral Resources Limited engage an equally innovative and impassioned team, that align with their core values.
Together with creating and instilling a sense of community, a consistency in quality and the investment in the space was reinforced through tactile touchpoints and an elevated approach throughout. Located in Osborne Park, within central Perth, the new MinRes headquarters presented an opportunity to create a physical space that embodied the mission of the business and their unique commitment to wellness from a holistic point of view.
From the inception, “It was clear the focus was on creating something special,” describes District Managing Director, Joseph Merlino. Bringing together a design team focused on everyday well-being and committed to supporting the innovation potential of the team, the focus was to engage a less traditional approach. Similar to the U.S. model of an all-encompassing workplace that combines supporting amenity and services for staff, a community mindset is woven into the design.
The functionality of the workplace then supports that approach, with a variety of spaces to work from, retreat to, to meet and engage, and to create a feeling of each employee feeling as though they were part of something bigger. From the café space, dedicated meeting rooms, offices, and open desking – as well as a suite of supporting ancillary spaces – each area aims to ease the transition from home life to work life. By allowing for personalisation, while also having a more open and transient way of working, a more fluid approach was adopted.
With wellness and wellbeing sitting as a core priority for MinRes, shaping a workplace that supported that ethos, was key. Designed with everyone in mind, with allowable adjustment to suit the individual from the outset, the desking system was created to be deliberately modular. In theory, the system had been designed to both suit the priorities and ways of working of the team, while also being able to be added to and subtracted from, to suit.
The physical health of the workplace environment became a core driver for MinRes - not just in the variety and flexibility of working areas and cluster opportunity for planned and accidental meetings, every other element was also considered. “From the integrated ambient lighting and access to natural light,” adds Joseph, “to the acoustics and generosity of each individual space, it was a priority to change and elevate the traditional ‘work’ environment, in every aspect and create something as a benchmark.”
Through embedding a unique customisation that retained a consistent quality, and a closely engaged working relationship, MinRes Headquarters reaps the rewards of a clear vision and a committed team. With a commitment to wellness at the centre of all gestures, the result is a workplace that represents all, and improves their experience of what a workplace can be.
