Environmental Responsibility

For us, sustainability means caring for the environment and the wellbeing of our customers, staff, makers and community.
We partner with brands who share our goal for a more sustainable future, focusing on durable, innovative designs that promote longevity, health and wellbeing.

We’re not perfect but strive for progress daily.
  • carbon

The furniture industry is notoriously carbon and waste-intensive. According to the World Green Building Council, the building and construction sector accounts for approximately 39% of global carbon emissions, with fit-outs and furniture playing a major role. In 2023, we partnered with Pangolin Associates to evaluate our carbon footprint and create a decarbonisation roadmap, focusing on emissions from freight and electricity. We will conduct assessments every two years to track progress and refine our strategies.

  • greenpower

Over the course of 2024 we transitioned to renewable power solutions, now proudly purchasing 100% GreenPower for showrooms nationally.

certifications

Certifications play a key role in our work, consistently guiding and motivating us to improve while also providing assurance to our customers. We are committed to advocating the importance of verification and promoting products that contribute to healthy indoor environments.

We partner with brands who manage products through eco-labeling programs such as Möbelfakta, Greenguard, Global GreenTag and Environmental Product Declarations.

  • geca

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) is Australia’s only independent, not-for-profit ecolabel, committed to reducing environmental impact and promoting ethical manufacturing. Since 2016, District has maintained GECA certification through rigorous third-party assessments. Our manufacturing partners undergo regular audits to ensure ongoing compliance with GECA’s high standards.
