View full details

The donut-shaped Boa Pouf by Sabine Marcelis is perfectly sculptural; a bold graphic form that interrupts interior landscapes with its faultless chunky geometry.

This piece of upholstered occasional furniture is rounded and soft, encased in a seamless outer layer that gives it an air-brushed finish: The smooth shape-knit textile that covers the Boa Pouf is a milestone in technologically innovative furniture making.

Boa Pouf is as perfect for perching on, propping up feet, lounging against, as it is for making a sculptural statement and is the ideal expression of designer Sabine Marcelis, whose work is characterised by resonating clear, single, notes of absolute material, textile and colour.

"I have this fascination and love with the donut shape. It's just such a perfectly complete and finite shape. Simple yet not boring. And the curve and void create a beautiful depth in almost all materials," Sabine says of her inspiration for the design.

Sabine Marcelis

Sabine Marcelis is a Dutch designer who runs her practice from the harbour of Rotterdam. After graduating from the Design Academy of Eindhoven in 2011, Marcelis began working as an independent designer within the fields of product, installation and spatial design with a strong focus on materiality.

Her work is characterised by pure forms which highlight material properties. Marcelis applies a strong aesthetic point of view to her collaborations with industry specialists. This method of working allows her to intervene in the manufacturing process, using material research and experimentation to achieve new and surprising visual effects for projects both showcased in museum and commissioned by commercial clients and fashion houses. Sabine considers her designs to be true sensorial experiences and not simple static works: the experience becomes the function, with a refined and unique aesthetic.
