Deeply textural, extremely functional, pleasantly tactile—the Rope Rug series is an innovative take on a familiar typology. Designer Pauline Deltour was inspired to reimagine the endlessly practical traditional Japanese tatami mat, but with rope to create a chunkier and more durable textile. Hem first produces metre upon metre of our own colourful cotton rope, which is then skillfully hand-woven into rugs of a variety of colourways and sizes. The rhythmic looping is an alluring texture when viewed from afar and a compelling design detail when experienced up close.

Born in Landerneau, France, Pauline Deltour graduated from ENSAD before opening her very own studio in Paris. Distinguished by a simultaneously severe and delicate nature, the vocabulary of Pauline’s designs often reflects characteristics of her own personality. The convergence of her precise hand, neat lines, vast colour ranges, and carefully selected materials form the identity of this young French designer’s work.
