The table’s sturdy legs in solid beech or ash are connected in a frame whose impressive dimensions give the table a very solid feel.

The table top rests on rubber rings, which unite the materials in a sophisticated way. The glass table top is available as round or square and has a thickness of 12 mm, slightly thicker than the more common 10mm. The base that fits both glass tops is available in three finishes; natural beech, black stained ash and blue varnished beech. The Ultramarine Blue has previously been used for Massproductions Waiter collection to great effect.

I wanted to give the base of the table a strong expression and therefore made it as large as I dared. The table takes its place in the room, while the transparent glass prevents the impression from being too solid. There are strong contrasts in wood and glass as materials; glass is born from fire and is frozen in time, wood is nourished by the heat of the earth and the material lives on even as furniture. I like to bring these two separate worlds together.

Chris Martin

After working as an assistant in Jasper Morrison’s studio in London, British designer Chris Martin left the UK and moved to Stockholm, where he worked as a freelance designer for IKEA and met Swedish designer Magnus Elebäck. In 2009, the pair joined forces to establish Massproductions – a furniture company that prides itself on producing “high quality, tactile furniture in a modernist spirit”.
