The shape of the top is determined by the mood and creativity of the glassblowers that day.

The name Trippy is based on the transition from the normal to the surreal. A bit like an evening where things start predictably and later become more and more odd, explains Massproductions’ design manager Chris Martin. Trippy’s cone-shaped base is produced in a mould while the expressive top section is created separately by free blowing, making each vase unique.

It begins with a rationally produced conformity. Then it flips out the higher up we get, there will be a transition from the rational to the madness. I like that contrast in the object. The shape of the top is determined by the mood and creativity of the glassblowers that day.

Chris Martin

After working as an assistant in Jasper Morrison’s studio in London, British designer Chris Martin left the UK and moved to Stockholm, where he worked as a freelance designer for IKEA and met Swedish designer Magnus Elebäck. In 2009, the pair joined forces to establish Massproductions – a furniture company that prides itself on producing “high quality, tactile furniture in a modernist spirit”.
