Gummy is Toogood’s first upholstered furniture. Plump, plush, sculptural seating designed to sit as a matching family, or solo statements. Gummy launched as the single-seater Gummy Armchair. The range has now expanded to include the more compact, armless Gummy Lounge Chair and Gummy Sofa (available in 3 widths - 1.2m, 2.4m and 3m.) The Gummy Footstool is a toothsome companion that pairs with the entire family.
There has always been the desire for Toogood to produce upholstered furniture, but it has taken years to find and build relationships with the right makers. It had to be British-made and sustainable, using traditional techniques and all natural materials. Because of the natural materias used, and technical build of Gummy, no carcinogenic or synthetic fire-retardant foams are needed.
After years of designing furniture almost exclusively using miniature maquettes, Gummy demanded a new approach.
Working with Toogood’s in house clothing team, a pattern was cut for the upholstery fabric allowing for Gummy’s curvaceous volumes while working with natural textiles. Gummy is offered in a range of Pierre Frey fabrics including wool bouclé, velvet and “Yeti” - a fuzzy blend of wool, mohair and long-haired alpaca. Colours include “Ciottolo” (a warm neutral), “Powder” (a soft pink), Giboulée (a two-tone mossy green), Prussiana (a deep forest green) and “Simple black”.
