Design Dialogues: Jack Milenkovic

Design Dialogues: Jack Milenkovic

Drawing on years of experience in the magazine industry, Jack Milenkovic, Creative Director at Atelier Lab, approaches interior styling with an editorial lens. Atelier Lab’s designs are influenced by a fervour for contemporary living, resulting in highly nuanced spaces dotted with eclectic and sculptural pieces.

We sat down with Jack to learn more about the man behind the design; what sparks his imagination, his favourite District pieces, and the exciting road ahead for Atelier Lab.

Three words to describe your design career journey?

Integrity, connection, tactility.

Best styling tip you’ve ever received?

No rules .

Favourite project you’ve ever worked on?

I couldn’t really define a favourite but I would have to say going to Milan each year for the fair is always a great project I look forward to.

Favourite design medium?

Palais De Tokyo (or any parisian gallery/museum). Plus Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Denmark, and the Danish Museum of Art & Design and (ARKEN Museum of Modern Art).

Favourite thing you’re seeing in the Australian design industry right now?

The sheer creativity with Australian Sculptural artists and ceramicists. I love understanding their process and narration of their inspiration.

The furniture piece you wish you had in your living room?

Grid Dressoir by Nestor Rotsen.

The city that sparks your imagination the most?

Paris or Berlin.

Best travel hack?

Roll your shirts in your suitcase.

Last book you read?

‘Call Me By Your Name’.

What is on the horizon for Atelier Lab?

We have a large residential project we have started working on in the East Suburbs of Sydney. After a 4-year Hiatus would love to get to Milan this year also.

What are your favourite District products?
  1. Puffy Lounge Chair
  2. Fragment Table
  3. Clerici Lounge Chair
