Statement of Significance: The Refurbished Palace Tower Lobby

The refurbished lobby of The Palace Tower bridges the heritage-rich Palace Hotel with the modernist architecture of the 1970s tower.

Completed in 1972, The Palace Tower is not heritage-listed, yet it remains a landmark of Perth’s post-war architectural and commercial heritage, symbolising the city’s transformation from small town to major urban centre.

The lobby of 108 St George’s Terrace has been reimagined by Woods Bagot as a warm and vibrant social hub. Once stark and uninviting, the space is now activated through new seating zones, a central café, a business lounge, and improved accessibility. A refined palette of black, white, and warm gold complements the timeless architectural forms, while bespoke artworks by First Nations artist Sharyn Egan add cultural depth.

Pieces from Resident, Mattiazzi, Simon James, and Massproductions were selected for the fit out, contributing to a sophisticated, human-centred environment that bridges past and future in the heart of Perth.
